MonacoTech: Apply This Autumn

MonacoTech's autumn 2026 call for projects opens soon. What Monaco tech and AI founders need to know before applying.

Monaco's state-backed startup incubator, MonacoTech, opens its next call for projects this autumn. If you are building a technology company and considering Monaco as a base, this is the window to prepare — not the week applications close.

Why This Round Matters

MonacoTech runs two calls for projects each year, and the autumn intake is traditionally the larger of the two. Based on the previous cycle, applications opened in mid-October and closed by late November, with video interviews in December, a final pitch before a jury in January, and successful teams joining the programme the following March. Expect a similar rhythm this year, though exact dates should be confirmed directly on monacotech.mc once the call is formally announced.

The incubator does not take equity in the startups it accepts — a meaningful difference from many private accelerators. Desk space in Monaco runs at a modest monthly cost, and founders keep full ownership while gaining access to mentorship, a professional network, and 18 months of structured support.

Who MonacoTech Is Looking For

Priority sectors are consistent from cycle to cycle: GreenTech, BlueTech (including smart yachting), MedTech/BioTech, and digital technology — with a stated interest in artificial intelligence applied to real, impact-driven use cases rather than AI as a buzzword. You do not need to have a company registered in Monaco to apply, but successful candidates are expected to incorporate locally within about 18 months of joining.

The baseline bar is a working prototype and some early market validation — a go-to-market horizon of roughly 18 months is what the jury tends to look for. Pure concept-stage ideas with no product to show are a harder sell.

What the Jury Actually Wants to See

Having watched several Monaco-based founders go through pitch processes, the pattern is consistent: juries reward clarity over ambition. A founder who can explain, in two sentences, what the product does, who pays for it, and why Monaco is the right base will outperform a founder with a bigger vision but a vaguer pitch.

This is also where your digital presence does real work before you ever step into the room. A jury — and any investor who searches your name afterward — will look at your website, your product demo, and your public materials. If your web development is unfinished or your positioning is inconsistent across channels, it undercuts a strong verbal pitch. Founders often underestimate how much a credible, well-built site adds to perceived seriousness at this stage.

Building the Business Case, Not Just the Pitch Deck

MonacoTech's jury is evaluating a business, not a slide deck. That means your go-to-market plan, your understanding of the Monaco and international market, and your digital strategy all matter as much as the underlying technology. If you're applying with a digital or AI-driven product, be ready to explain your growth channels concretely — how you'll acquire your first paying customers, not just your total addressable market.

Founders who work through this with outside help before applying tend to arrive with a tighter story. A short digital strategy session focused specifically on your go-to-market plan can surface gaps a jury will otherwise ask about live — better to have answered them in advance.

AI Applicants: Be Specific

Because AI is explicitly called out as a priority area, expect more competition in that category this cycle than in prior years. Generic "AI-powered" positioning will not differentiate you. If your product uses AI automation or AI-driven tooling, be precise about which models or approaches you use, what data you rely on, and what happens when the AI gets something wrong — juries increasingly probe for this rather than taking claims at face value.

Practical Steps Before the Call Opens

A few things worth doing in the coming weeks, before the application window opens:

  • Confirm your prototype actually works end-to-end, not just in a demo environment you control
  • Line up one or two reference customers or pilot users who can speak to real usage
  • Make sure your public-facing materials — website, one-pager, demo video — are consistent and current
  • Draft your answers to "why Monaco" and "why now" before you're rushed by a deadline
